The youngest children in the nursery are cared for in our separate Kindergarten Unit building which is divided into various ages and stages of development.
The baby room has an adjacent cot room and its own outdoor space accessed directly from the baby room. This allows our youngest children to settle into nursery life in a calm, nurturing environment. Children of this age need familiar faces, carers who know them well as individuals. Consistency of care for all children in the nursery is very important, but it is absolutely essential with our youngest children.
At 12 months old children will move through to the Younger Kindergarten Room where the children are free to explore and learn in a safe and stimulating environment.
When the children are about 18 months old they will be based in our Older Kindergarten Room where they can enjoy fun and stimulating activities with direct access to our safe but exciting outdoor play area.
Our Toddler Unit is located on the ground floor of the Old Police House building and has an open plan layout over three rooms. Toddler children are active and inquisitive so the ability to explore the different rooms allows them to gradually become more confident and independent.
The toileting facilities are very well situated and can be accessed from the childcare rooms and from the outdoor area which is very important for this age group of children.
The Pre-school Unit has a large, open plan room together with a smaller room for more focused activities. There are opportunities for children to share and form relationships, make choices, to discuss and experiment, to ask questions, to develop essential physical and manipulative skills, to learn through play and planned activities, to communicate and to concentrate and persevere.
